Mrs. Fluffy Puffy :

Won't the chickens eat the shredded paper, though? I've never used shredded paper for nesting so I dunno!!!

Maybe if they're hungry. Mine nibble at the pine bedding too though and it doesn't hurt them. I have seen where several use it in nest boxes. I have used it in the coop as bedding when I had nothing else. It just packs down easy if it gets damp during wet weather from tracking in with wet feet. I don't use it unless I have to for that reason.

I have used shredded paper. It did seem that my chickens ate/nibbled on it. It did not last long-- had to replace it (used in nest boxes) every few days. But we were living where it rained a lot. I have also used it with baby chicks and it too seemed to work OK.

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy :

So it would or woundn't be a good bedding for nest boxes??? Could I also use it for baby chick bedding?

Not the best but totally useable. If you have an abundant supply it would be great freebie recycling use of material. It won't hurt anything but it will need to be changed more frequently.

I use it in a pinch, but its not the best. One problem I have is that it sticks to their feet and I have had a chicken bleed when I went to pull it off.

It does get gross really quickly and absorbes odors more then pine shavings or straw.
