My chicks have been being so naughty and they keep getting all their bedding soaked with water. Somehow they went through five liters of water just this evening. They tracked it all over their cage and now their bedding is soaked. I was wondering if I can put this under their bedding to soak up the water? They do scratch down to the bottom of the brooder so would it be a problem if they tried to eat this? I know it’s for horses, but I use it for the bottom I’m my guinea pigs cage and it works well. I really need a solution. I have one bag of bedding left and the chicks go to their new home next weekend so I don’t want to have to buy another one. Do you think it’s ok? I would appreciate an answer soon because I’m going to sleep soon and I don’t want to leave the chicks with wet bedding.

Ya, you could totally use that.
Another solution would be to raise the water to chest level, so they couldn't get shavings in it. They wont be able to get their feet in it either. You could use both. :)
Thank you so much! I’ll try to put it in. I’m not sure how I could raise it... if I just put a stick across the brooder and hung it it would be too high up. Any suggestions on how I could do that? Also the chicks love jumping, they alway jump on top of their food holder. So I think raising it might help with the bedding but probably not with the cleanliness of the water 😂

I use pine pellets in my brooder and nothing else. You don't need shavings on top of them. I have had luck with them so far and my chicks are 3 weeks old.

Looks like you fixed it, but if the bedding is still getting wet, check for leaks. I couldn't figure out why my chicks kept running out of water (dry twice in two days) and then I realized the waterer base had a crack in it.
