Can I Wait?

No garage

I'm actually thinking of remodeling an out of use outhouse. Unfortunately, after last night's snow, sleet, thunderstorm it will be a while before I can get to it. Not to mention all my spare time has been spent cleaning up snow

elmo- I looked for local breeders but the only one I could find in VT only sold Ring Neck Pheasants

I'm still in the "figuring things out " stage but it's good to know I have plenty of time to do that! As long as they are grown enough to withstand next winter when it comes.

Have you checked the "Where am I, Where are You?" section for your state? You might be able to find breeders closer on those pages.

Yes, I did that. Unfortunately, I did not measure the width of the gate to our back yard first. We ended up having to take one of the sections of the fence apart in order to get the dern coop into the back yard. That was seriously not fun.

You could try emailing the person listed for information. I know there are lots of people raising chickens in Vermont, you just need to find them. How about checking with a local 4H club?

I ordered my chicks a few weeks ago for a late May delivery. I did it specifically to give us enough time to build them a coop and to make sure the deep freeze is good and well over.

I just ordered my new brood, & specified an April delievery date...You don't need the coop built first, they'll be in a brooder for awhile...So you can start building when the snow melts, & still have a great selection!!

Wow, thanks for all the suggestions, it gives me alot to think about

...nice to have something to think about besides snow.....

If you want a certain breed you shoudl order sooner rather than later. Some hatcheries "sell out" by april or may. If youget your order in and on the list then you'll have a better chance of getting exactly what you want.
