Can I write on an egg with permanent marker?

Everyone can do what they think is best. No harm no foul.

I've used both pencil and sharpie. They both work equally well. It's just a matter of personal preference.

I also agree. I just started using a fine point red sharpie. Ive put some eggs under a broody hen, and the pencil rubs off so I marked them with a sharpie. I also put some goose eggs under a broody goose and also marked those with a permanent marker. Eggs that I will be selling are marked in pencil.

I encounter this all the time, I don't know if I'll ever understand it. People will cling to a belief even after they've seen for themselves that it isn't true, can have solid proof in front of them, and continue to base their actions on things that they know to be nonsense. I don't get it.

LOL..Chris, now I understand your previous comment, "See why I said it wouldn't matter if I told y'all or not...." Maybe we should just both keep our mouths shut!!! My fault...I thought this was a forum where people could give their opinions!

Did somebody stop you from stating your opinion? That's weird, I see it right there, I read it. Who said you can't state your opinion?

You said that you saw that the marker didn't hurt anything, that it was your best hatch ever with shipped eggs. All healthy. You said, that you still won't use a marker on your eggs, even though you saw for yourself that it was fine. So you know it's nonsense. Yet you cling to it. You said so.

Poulets, you said you didn't have scientific proof. Well, I do. And you know how you can find out for yourself, if you want to. If you choose to ignore that, and not see for yourself, and be afraid of something harmless, that is certainly your choice. Your pencils won't hurt anything, either.

Sorry if you feel that by stating what I know to be true, I'm somehow infringing on your rights.

Sharpie is oil based, which is why it's "permanent" and also why it's less likely to bleed when exposed to water. The part you smell is probably the most dangerous part, and it evaporates pretty quick as the ink dries.

Anybody ever tried to wash off oil using nothing but humidity??

Also if there's water inside the egg, oil isn't very likely to mix with it, now is it?

Dude dancing bear, they are talking about writing on EGGS, not some major boiling point discussion about life, death etc. You might have a drink of wine or something? You seem all bent out of shape over something foolish... I don't have any scientific proof however... LOL

And as per the heated discussion here, I paint each egg with oil based paints in an abstract illustration of what I think best represent the day the egg was put under the broody, the breed the chick will be and what I feel their personality will likely be. JK LOL

So what your saying it that I can paint my eggs a different color and get a breed other than what the eggs come from?? I think with this new information you should work on determining what color an egg needs to be painted in order to get them to all hatch out girls, or do you already have that knowledge and you are not shareing.
