Can It Really Happen ? ? ?

My pekin ducks have been hiding their eggs in one nest for about a week or two. I found the nest this morning. My two females came running over as fast as they could like they were going to attack me and started quacking loudly when I bent down to get the eggs. There were 18 eggs but two were busted, so I threw them out. 3 of them were not even in the nest and they were cold so I took them. BUT!!!! There are a dozen eggs left in the nest and they are all warm... sooo do you think she could be setting on them????

Yes, I would say she is still sitting on them. They do leave the nest during the hatching period and with warm weather their time away is longer.

Keep an eye open for them in another 10+ days. My ducks would sit on the eggs just untill they were starting to peep and then abandon the nest. We were able to grab the cooled eggs and hatch them under a light and on a damp towel but it was very upsetting to have her just leave a pile of peeping eggs.

When I was a teen, we had a pekin that hatched 3 eggs.

ive seen pekin hatch several times. we had them when i was a kid and had lil white duckling every now and then. they can and will hatch eggs my advice is the obvious go out at night and look at the nest then u will know. good luck keep us posted.

Duckman has had his pekins hatched a couple of clutches this year and had over a dozen ducklings. So yes, pekins can go broody!
