I have, well had... 5 chicks - 4 months old, In a coop outside. 2 were Millie fluers- a pullet and cockerel, and the others are a silky and 2 EE's.

Three weeks ago a snake killed 2 silkies that were also with them. 5 days ago I scattered moth balls around the coop. None went in the coop and the chicks could not reach them. They had plenty of ventilation. The birds were healthy. No runny poops or signs of illness. The are fed and watered well.

They were all well this morning, but I just found my 2 d'uccles dead. Only them. The others are fine. No wounds. No snake crush or peck or attack marks. I am at a complete loss. Could the moth ball smell been too strong? Both birds came from the same breeder... genetic problem...? I am in Louisiana. There are many Millie fluer breeders nearby so I assume our weather shouldn't be too extreme....

HELP!!!!

We're your moth balls cedar? We don't really use moth stuff up here because its not really an issue but I know a lot of moth prevention stuff is cedar. My understanding is that cedar is poisonous to chickens. Maybe someone with more knowledge can elaborate?
