Can My Chickens Eat......... Questions and Answers

Thank you! Are there any absolutely no-nos? I read somewhere no avocado.... I have some yellow squash here tonight...

No No Foods:

Nothing too salty or sweet or fried

Nothing moldy

asparagus

avocado pits and skins

no potatoes at all

raw beans

onions

tomato leaves

rhubarb

chocolate

no caffeine

egg plant leaves

This is a partial list of bad foods for chickens.

I have read No potatoes at all! but I have also read on here that some people have given their chickens mashed potatoes so I don't know??? I personally don't give mine any potatoes.

Better safe than sorry! Thanks, because I read not to give chickens potato skins, but was confused about the actual potato.

Thanks so much! I never would have guessed some of those. I contacted the breeder who said to also supply grit with any scraps so I'll wait until tomorrow to purchase grit before I give her any. It's nice to have a list of foods to avoid.

Chickens will eat pretty much anything. Mine have eaten:
A small snake
Yogurt (they LOVE it!)
Rose petals (our rosebush is now stripped clean)
Bacon
Maggots (good protein)
Hard boiled eggs/Shell-less eggs (I know, I know, they could become egg eaters!)
And plenty of other things.
I've seen a few threads that ask what you gave your chickens. Link:https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/newestpost/725553
Let me know if it doesnt work.
