Can My Chickens Eat......... Questions and Answers

Mine had a ton of apples in the summer!!! but yes the seeds are poisonous. Mine ate the peels and all. But I have heard you should not feed apples that have worms in them because that can give them worms I guess???

Also I just gave them the whole apples they would eat the apple and leave the core.

All my animals get lots of windfall apples each fall and they're fine. My chickens get the peels and cores leftover from making applesauce. No one had died from eating too many apple seeds. No one has worms from eating wormy apples.
My birds get potatos from time to time. I've offered the peels but they're not interested. Also not interested in onion, citrus or banana peels. Mine would eat asparagus like crazy if I let them, but asparagus is for people!

Yes they would be fine to eat. Chickens can eat almost anything.quote name="Fillyelf" url="/t/731278/can-my-chickens-eat-questions-and-answers#post_10129191"]I bought a bag of shelled, roasted chestnuts.I don't much care for them.  Can I give them to the chickens and ducks?

I've read that egg layers and meat birds have two different diets. I will have Australorps, which are a dual purpose bird, what I can feed them (or give as treats) that will work for both meat production and egg laying?

I was wondering if my chickens can eat red cabbage, any cabbage for that matter?
Mine do.

I was wondering if chickens could eat spaghetti sauce that's not salty?

Yep they love it but they will get it all over their face. make sure you through in a little pasta so you can watch the spaghetti keep away.

Bust the nut meats up some before you do so your poultry can get started.

It may be a shorter thread if you asked, "What can't a chicken eat?" Some things that are deadly poisons to you and I are just spring tonics to chickens. But to start off the don't give them this thread, don't give them rock salt. Rock salt is pretty and shiney and a chicken may eat too much. Also be very very careful if you take your engagement ring off in the chicken pen, DON'T lay it down!!!
