Ok, so my EE (hopefully) hen is 11 weeks old and has a tail that sticks straight up and is pretty shiny - does that mean she is really a he??? Augh!

sorry to hear about your roos. i too am a 1st time chicken keeper. i got 6 chicks from a local feed store, who said they were sexed pullets from Mt Healthy hatchery and were supposed to be pullets. 13 weeks later - i heard this tremendous crowing. two days later the ad was on Craigslist, three days later (today) they were re-homed. i guess the only way to know you're getting hens is to buy laying hens and not chicks.

I hope someone from craigslist contacts me soon!!

they have a week, then I'll have to come up with something else.

I rehomed my EE roo on Craig's List quickly. Found a really nice woman who wanted to breed her EEs. We met at a Target parking lot in a town half way between our homes. He crowed in his box and I cried like a baby while I waited for her to arrive.

Not always. The only reason I mention the tails is because a picture is included, and I can tell that they are roosters and are still young and the tail will grow out more as they age. I wouldn't have been able to draw a conclusion on gender without a picture, and all of the features AS WELL AS the tail point me to my end result-roosters. EEs are hard to sex in general. Hen and rooster feathering will drive owners nuts, because sometimes boys will look like girls and vice versa. How red is the face of your bird? Tail placement isn't very reliable as such a young age. Tails on both hens and roos can be shiny. Don't lose hope! And if the bird was sexed, 90% accuracy is in your favor.
