Can my Neighbours make me get rid of my chickens??

You asked why people would not like the chickens..
Lack of education I think.
Many folks think of them as dirty, carrying disease ect.
Even my close friends do not understand my love for my chickens.
That is why i love BYC's

You can't control how others think, and it will drive you crazy to even worry about it. As long as its legal for you to have those chickens, and from that handout it seems that it is, dont let others ruin your enjoyment.

Well, at least they association is notifying people that there are chickens allowed in that area. I would think people would know that if there's farms in the area, there's going to be chickens and chicken noises. Go figure. Too bad for them if they don't like it. They can go vacation somewhere else.

Just remember, a rooster isn't a laying chicken and isn't necessary to get eggs. They might be able to make you get rid of him but the hens should be safe.

What you have is a classic case of the city folks vacationing in the country for the summer and expecting that the rules are the same all over and people who have chickens are those farmers whose smells and noise interrupt their quiet solitude. Rather like cleaning out the stable on the first nice sunny day with a big noisy truck or tractor.
This is why there are Right To Farm laws.
Be aware of zoning changes. If/when your county develops zoning laws, the pocket of cottages might be defined as a residential area. Of course, your birds should be grandfathered in, but keep aware.
