No cat food is the perfect amount to feed your birds..... Save it for the cat. It is high fat and high sodium. Not meant for birds..... You'll find post where folks claim to have used cat food since Moby was a minnow, Its just bad advise.... Cat food is not good for birds. Most cat food is even more expensive than proper gamebird starter...

If you are have'n trouble finding game bird starter. Turkey starter is usually the next best choice and usually available anywhere feed is sold. After re-reading my response, I sound a bit "Blunt". I apologize for that. At first I thought you may be just yank'n my chain here. Both the chicken feed and cat food questions have started large scale, very heated debates in years gone by.... Most of the folks in this old thread were involved in them at one time or another.... The only things you were missing to start a good fight back then is mentioning thistle seed, polar bears and keep'n your quail with chickens!

Good luck with your birds.....

No you were fine ive been told and have read different things on different feeds thats why i was asking. Thank you for tge info

20% protein is fine for adult birds, but you really need something 28 to 30% protein for chicks. You can order it off Amazon if you can't find it anywhere else.

So the problem with chicken feed is the lack of proteins?
Can we mix in some soybean meal to increase the protein level to 30% and call it good? That is like feeding the quail chicks with boiled eggs to increase protein right?
