I have a roo that was born in june. I kept him inside and he became an inside pet. Well now he's crowing and getting too big for his cage. Can he go outside with the flock? It gets down to 35 at night and has been in the 40s during the day. I have a smaller coop with a small bulb. Is that enough or would it be a shock?

Your rooster is pretty much full grown now and he will do fine outside. I'd say he needs to be with the flock. You can put him out for a few hours a day until he gets used to the cold if it worries you.

He was ready to go out with the flock 4 months ago. Once they are feathered in and big enough to hold their own, usually about 8 to 12 weeks old, they are fine to go outside.

The feathers keep them warm. Remember that chickens are basically wearing full down coats. Keeping him inside, once fully feathered is kind of like you wearing a parka 24/7 inside.
