My tendency is to UNDER-dramatize generally, so I am glad to have all points of view but in this case I think taking it seriously is probably the best route. After reading all this on here, I started noticing that I can smell the smoky smell coming out of the shed from several feet away. I can only imagine how it would feel to the chickens being down on the floor of it with the door shut (even though there are two wire-covered windows and ventilation holes drilled in the lower wall opposite).
I DO really appreciate the "it's not so bad" point of view though, because that is almost always my reaction to things, and it would have certainly been in this case too if I hadn't had such resounding and immediate "yeah, that's bad" response on here.
Oh, I should also add that the corner in the picture DID have a stack of feed bins and miscellaneous other materials... all of which comprises that smoldering puddle in the picture. It got pretty hot in there.
I still haven't gotten around to writing up the story... I could tell it here now but, as a writer, this is prime material for some serious fun so I'm gonna do it right and put it on my blog. Hey, at least I'll get something out of it, right! lol
Bought a new tarp (tarps do interesting things when you burn them, btw) today, and feed to replace what I lost, and some fresh straw. It will be Sunday before I can prime and paint the shed, though, so I'll be catching chicks and putting them up in a brood box every night this week. Argh. Do love my chickies, though, so they're worth it.
