can prolapse be caused by duck mating chicken?

Absolutely, ducks have a corkscrew-like penis, and chickens are not biologically prepared for the introduction of "foreign objects." Don't count on "curing" this behavior. It's approaching spring-his hormones are raging, and he's horny. Please remove him before he kills your hens.

My drake does this and I've seen it at the end and it looks like a deflated balloon...long and skinny.

I have not seen any adverse happenings because of his actions but have noticed the hens run and go perch where he can't get to them.

Some times eggs have blood speckles on them as well and this is normal... I think it may have to upping something in their diet too perhaps they may need? But I've had bloody eggs before and before the duck and you have to remember... we're talking about the reproductive system here... there is blood there.

I'd make some perches with old lawn chairs and tree branches... anything where the hens can go roost up high to give them areas of escape.

Is it just me? I can't get these links to work?

Maplesky, I had to copy and paste the addresses into the browser bar directly, to find the page. (the link didn't work for me either).

Yes they can be injured.

I had a pair of ducks and the female got killed by a racoon. The drake went crazy, and went after my hens.

He bred one several times, and she got really sickly and died a couple weeks after his abuse. Her vent was all messed up.

I got him a new female duck and he settled down again. But last month she got eaten too. Poor guy. So far he hasn't gone back to hurting chickens. But if he does he is going to be a goner.

So yes. Be careful. They can cause fatal damage.

Really? I have seen my male duck's penis before. I'm not sure if it's supposed to, he doesn't seem to be in any discomfort, but during mating it does come out and then retract. It is screw shaped.
