Hi! I'm anew member from New England. Last year I starte with a few black copper marans, but when I suffered a tibial plateau fracture from a close brush by a large, beautiful English style yellow lab, they went to a friend's farm to be free rangers. I just got two turkeys, one of them a blue slate which I would like tokeep and breed. Will it overwinter in New England without a heated barn? Can it get by with scavenging or do I need to get feed or corn for it? Is there a good turkey beginner book?

Welcome to BYC! Sorry I can't help you. I'm from Texas and am more concerned with heat than cold. But hopefully someone will come along soon who can answer your question.

from Ohio. So glad you joined. I think it will do OK having a barn to be in but not without some sort of feed.
