Can somebody expain Diatomaceous Earth?

One thing that frustrates me, is that our closest vet, does both Dogs, Cats, & Exotics, but say they can't care for chickens since they don't have a livestock license, or whatever.

Well chickens are legally livestock in many areas. You might not like it but there are many people with pet goats, cows, and horses that agree but at the end of the day it is what it is. Many so called exotic vets won't touch my pet coons, again it is what it is.

Doesn't have one when it come to poultry, it just one of those things that someone, somewhere, sometime said was good for chickens and it got spread around that it cures (fill in the blank) on chickens, no one bothered to check if it did or not.
Now people treat it like a magic cure-all because 'they read it once'.
cider vinegar and pepper flakes don't do anything either.
I use ACV in my waterer (plastic) to prevent alagae growth but nothing else. Pepper flakes are treats for my parrot, chickens, and ducks but not for their health.

I use food grade DE in the coop (very lightly because it can be dangerous to breathe for both chickens and people) and in their dust bath area to prevent mites and lice but otherwise don’t feed it to mine.
