Can someone give me some advice on sour crop?

Mollie,
Awww, thanks so much for that! I'm pretty new to the world of chickens! I have 22 of them. We have 7 Moyers, 9 Barred Rocks and 6 mixes! I'm not sure what exactly they are. Some sort of bantum/leghorn mix. I've had them all since they were peeps. 4 of the mixed breed are roos. They all came from the same batch and they all get along fairly well. I've seen small tufts between them but nothing major as of yet. I'm not exactly sure how another roo would fair with my guys. They are all young, they hatched in March and the Barred Rocks in April. So I will listen to what you think about adding another roo to my group. If you think it would work, I will gladly pay you for him

You have to let me know what you find at Rutz!! I'm thinking that sounds sooooo fun! What time do you think you will be going?

JakRat, what can you do to help me? I don't know what to do for her anymore!! Let me know if you have any ideas as to what we can do for her or what you'd be willing to help me do!

Where are you at? I can always come take a look... it always helps to put two minds together. We can research and compare notes just to see what might work best.

Well, if you are in York, I'm probably an hour away for sure. I am sort of between Harrisburg and Reading. If you know how to get to I78, I am the a few exits down. Her crop is so big!! It looks about the size of a large grapefruit. It is squishy and she stinks horribly! She is eating. I was making her vomit, but as advice of others, they say NOT to do that. When I was making her vomit, not very much would come up anyway. I took a tube attached to a large syringe and stuck it down her throat into her crop and tried to suction it out. Very little came out. I tried to flush her with baking soda and water and nothing. Then people were advising me that surgery isn't that hard. I really thought about doing it, but I just don't know. I have been giving her ACV water and some crumbles and grit of course. She's up and about and eager to eat. I just am at a loss...I can't really afford to take her to the vet either.

Have you let her be for a night? Like with no food or water just to see if it goes down? I would be nervous about the surgery too! It seems easy enough but I would just be a bit nervous. If it doesnt get better I can always try to run on up there!

Yeah, I did the no food and water thing for her and it didn't go down. She's been like this about 5 days now and she's staying about the same. I would need to figure out where I can get all of the supplies to attempt the surgery. That would be my LAST resort. The other thing I was told I could try is to take a needle and puncture her crop and try to suck it out with the needle and syringe. I have the stuff to do that, but I can't imagine that would work. I figured if it doesn't vomit, a tube down the throat didn't get anything, I can't see how poking her with a needle would do much either. What do you think you would do at this point??

I would try the needle... but it does sound impacted. And you have been massaging it too?

They did the syringe thing too... maybe try again?

I mean you may want to do the surgery. You can get the stuff at tractor supply.

I would contact the lady that did the surgery in the earlier post to ask her more about it. It does seem simple enough and even though it might hurt it will probably feel alot better than the huge crop.

I did try the syringe thing with a tube down her throat. I will try that again. I'm so afraid that the syringe thing wouldn't work and what do I do to the hole that it leave? Will it scab over? Will the stuff from her crop leak into her body through that hole? So many questions! I just don't know. Thanks for the link and for all of your help!

I have also been massaging it. From what I understand, an impacted crop is hard. This feels like a water balloon. I just wish it would go away!!
