Can someone help me identify what I'm dealing with (pic included)

Fish Mox or Amoxicillin dosage is 25 mg per pound twice a day. If you buy 250 mg tablets, one will treat a 5 pound chicken given twice a day. Amoxicillin can treat staphylococcus. Here is a link for Fish amoxicillin:

If the infection is caused by E.coli or some other bacteria, the Fish Mox will not help. So if it doesn’t get better after a few days, try another antibiotic. Sulfa antibiotics (SMZ-TMP or Bactrim, sulfatrim) can treat some E.coli. A vet might be helpful to prescribe a drug that treats many bacteria., and save you from buying something that will not work.

Cephalexin or Keflex can treat E.coli as well. Here is a fish version:

We rescued an older rooster a couple years ago. He had bad leg mites, we treated him and he did much better and life went on. A while ago, we noticed a large dark growth (hard almost like a calcified growth) (Picture 0693) on the top of his foot/leg. He acted like it hurt and limped. We started putting some corona on it unsure what else to do and it softened and came off. It left a bare spot that scabbed over and we thought he was on the mend. Then it never really healed and we would clean it, add some antiseptic (Corona) and wrap it. It never really healed and then it started growing this cheezy looking stuff on top (pictures 1645 & 1646) and when I soaked it in Epson salt it came off. Picture 1652 is after the growth was removed. We started soaking him in Epson salt with dawn antibacterial soap. Then I would put some chlorihexidine antiseptic on it and let it sit a minute then I would spray with MicrocyAH and wrap it, changing wrap three times a day. The bottoms of his feet are clear (1654) and I don't see swelling anywhere else. It is and isn't doing better. The cheesy stuff is not growing back as fast but is trying (1674) and I am about ready to simply euthanize my boy because I don't know what else to do for him. We've been battling this for several weeks now...two months? Wondering if it is a cancer or something....
May I suggest Bag Balm. Just a suggestion. I don't know if it will work. " Ingredients: Quinoline Sulfate 0.3% in a petrolatum lanolin base." Also "the product contains no alcohol". Won't dry out wound.

How much amoxicillin would you administer and how do you do it?
Treated a buds rooster with Amox while he healed up from a broken leg, here's how we gave it to him. Take a 250mg capsule, break it open in a small glass and mix it with minute amounts of warm water to dissolve the amox. Be judicious, a few drops can turn into a few cc's very easily. Once you've got the amox dissolved, suck it up into a needless syringe, open up his beak and squirt the medicine into the back of his mouth, .5-1.0 cc at a time. Don't squirt it down his windpipe as that would be bad. Just give it a try, it's easier than it sounds.

That stuff stinks when you mix it with water and has to taste terrible, but the rooster drank it down, every time with no problem.

Wow! Thank you so much - and how do you administer it especially if it comes in tablets. I've never done this before...Is there a good youtube or instruction page...I don't want to overdose either...You've been very helpful...

Ok, so dissolve it with only a few drops of water correct? And how many doses would one dissolved pill be? Surely he doesn't take the whole 250 mg at one time? (Sorry, Im new at this and I'm really a "visual" kind of learner to I have to paint a picture in my mind of what I'm doing....Lol. I do appreciate your help...

Yep, a 250mg capsule was 1 dose. We gave him 1 dose/day. I think a lot of folks dose 2 times a day, but once was all our schedule would allow. Here's the exact medicine I used. I was usually kinda sloppy with the water, so by the time it's mixed up, it might have been 2-3 cc's worth of liquid.

Ok then, thank you! I appreciate it.

You can also just place a tablet in the back of the beak, and they will swallow it. I have also hidden medicine insmall pieces of liverwurst, in canned cat food, or in egg mixture. Lots of different idea from people here on BYC. Good luck, and keep us posted on recovery.
