Can someone please help me ID what's making this noise?

Yes!! One night really late, not long after we moved in, my husband and I were sitting on our front porch in total darkness. We live on about 3 acres in a 1900 farmhouse, in a rural part of the country with no street lights. To say it is our dream come true is an understatement.

So there we are, having a drink and enjoying the peace, and this sound like a woman getting murdered suddenly pierces the quiet. We jumped a mile! Luckily we knew it was a bobcat, but it somewhere very, very close. It was quite an experience!

I rarely hear them anymore. Somethings happened to them.

When we first moved here, there were so many feral cats. We do have a few outside cats of our own, and the ferals were showing up for food. But then they started having kittens here (all ours are fixed). I called the shelter, which doesn't take cats at all. Then I tried every private rescue I could find. No one could or would help.

We ended up starting to trap and spay those that we could. At one point, there were close to 20, and I was at my wits end. There are now just 7 out there, most of which cause no problems. I'm sure some have fallen prey to the local predators, and some probably just left. The last unfixed female had kittens 4 weeks ago, and we were able to get her in the house with her 2 babies. The babies are so sweet and already have good homes lined up, then mom is getting spayed. That'll be it for the unfixed females, and I am sure hoping that it keeps others from showing up.
