It could have been too soon or some babies are born with their egg yolk sac not up inside right. It is sometimes hard to know right answer should I help or not.

I think i helped her/him way to early. How do you know if its the yolk hanging out? is the yolk usually red?

Yes It has blood vessels running through it and around it for the chick to get nutrients for several days after born. If you tie off what is hanging out if all the yolk isn't out then the rest will stay up inside and the baby will get some nutrients. If you leave it moist and try to dry it I have found that it sticks to stuff and baby wiggles and pulls it all the way out. My best survival rate is to take thread tie it tightly close to chick and make sure tie once then several knots on top to have it good and tight. You are cutting off blood supply so more egg yolk doesn't leak out and it doesn't lose blood. I would take blow dryer and sit with it on low setting and dry it good. You want it to dry so more yolk doesn't come out of chick

But what if it isnt the egg yolk hanging out of his/her abdomen? what if its a intestine or some sack of blood that the chick needs to absorb still because I took the chick out of the egg to early?

I think the yolk is usually dark yellow with red veins. I have helped a few chicks (when the egg was cracked) out. If you keep them moist they sometimes suck up the yolk. It's a wait and see time.

But this isnt yellow at all its pretty much completely red.

It is hard for me to know without seeing it what it is exactly. If it is intestine your baby probably won't make it. Most babies cannot survive with intestine hanging out of abdomen, I good guess is egg yolk cause that is usually what is left hanging on hatching babies. Alot of times it is yellow. Maybe you just have some water in some membrame I am not sure without seeing it.

So I'm thinking its the yolk just not absorbed. But its big! But say that it is the yolk. What are things to do? I'm scared to tie it off and my instinct if saying to just leave it be and maybe it will just absorb it up while its laying in the damp paper towel?
