I got a call from a friend today that said her ducks friend died & her duck needed a new home. Of course I couldnt say no, so we added another duck to our flock. She isnt sure what breed this duck is. My guess was Rouen but I dont know enough about ducks to say for sure. Does anyone else know?
Rouens look like big mallards so I don't think it's rouen. I think khakis are more brown but I could be wrong. Maybe cayuga or swedish mix of some kind? Or a khaki mix? I'm not much help, lol.
thanks, yeah, she is cute & a sweetie too.. left me pick her right up and we left her out of the coop to swim with our 2 other ducks, she jumped right out of the kiddie pool and went right back to the coop door trying to get in.. i think she likes her new home I thought rouens were similar to mallards, but it was the only brown duck i know of All I know is that she came from tractor supply earlier this year. I have been looking at pics of khaki campbells since you guys mentioned it and they seem to look the most like her. I didnt know tractor supply sold mixes though. weird.
It looks just like my Cayuga that I have in my mix ,mine is a great duck gentle and smart and likes to mingle with the wild ducks on the pond but comes back in everyday, very social
@ducklover ~ i didnt think tractor supply sold mixes, it could have been the sunlight or something too when i took the pic. ill see if i can get a better one tomorrow.
@dukkman ~ yeah, shes very social. I dont think shes quite adjusted to me yet, we tried putting her in the kiddie pool again and she jumps out and goes right back to the coop door. but she lets me pick her up no problem. i have a black cayuga so I hope my lil girl gets the same temperament as she has kuz shes a sweetheart. I think she might think my younger ducks are her babies, they run in their own lil flock, its cute. My niece and nephew have named her "mama duck" because shes "humongeous" lol
