Can someone tell me what is causing this sore on my Bourbon Red tom’s wattle?

Hi, I’ve been watching this sore on Mr Tom’s wattle for a couple weeks now. Originally I was afraid it was Fowl Pox or something of the sort, but it hasn’t spread to any other part of his head or to any other flock member. When I first noticed it, it was black and now it’s fading to an ashy gray. He is my only Tom and I’m thinking it’s from the sharp point on his beak. Can anyone confirm? If that’s what it is, what can be done about it?

I don't have turkeys, but first blush it looks like a callous from the tip of his beak constantly hitting that spot. A beak trim/filing might be in order?

I would put some Neosporin on it and see how it does. It may have started from an insect bite, a scratch or a bite from another turkey.

Thank you for the replies! I’m glad to see that neither of you think it’s something worse than an injury, whether self inflicted or not. I’m going to do some research about the beak trimming. I’ve heard of it but I don’t know if it causes pain. I certainly don’t want to do it if it causes pain.

Thanks again!

Adding that I’ve just looked into it and apparently there are many nerve receptors in the beak. I won’t be trimming it. He’s a sweet boy. I don’t want to hurt him so I’ll try and just put something on his wattle to quicken the healing process.
