Can turkeys be housed with chickens, ducks and geese?

Yes chickens can carry blackhead with no symptoms. I feed my turkeys apples all of the time, though I would hesitate to feed them onions. If blackhead is a problem where you are, it can also be carried by earthworms after they eat the chicken poop. I believe I heard that a good worming schedule helps with it? I have never had problems with it, so really am not an authority on the subject. Does anybody else in your area raise turkeys? Did you get your chickens as chicks or as adults?

I keep mine seperate because they fight and fuss with each other and the bigger birds shove the smaller ones out of the way. My chickens pay the feed bill so I don't want them being bullied. However, they do free range together and I have one hen that prefers roosting with the chickens for some reason. I am the only person I know who does seperate them. All my neighbors keep everything, including sheep and goats, in one large pen.
I'd be concerned with birds dying. I'd seperate them for that reason alone. Try and isolate the problem and see if they show any symptoms-runny nose, labored breathing, pus around eyes, look for wounds, check feces for worms, ect... Are you over crowding maybe?
Sorry, I did not read your second post. In my opinion, you are over crowding which in turn can lead to many other problems. Also, look closely for worms. Heavy infestation can cause blood in stool.

I don't have any social or disease problems with mixing poultry. I do live in a dry climate with alkline unfertile soil. Not a happy place for earthworms. Maybe thats why I have never had one case of blackheads. I keep bantam ducks, bantam chickens, standard chickens, geese, baby turkeys and full grown turkeys all in the same pen. Everyone gets along.

I have a potbellied pig that thinks she is a chicken and goes everywhere her rooster goes. My poulty visit the horses, and goats too. They have nest and babies in the box stalls.

Hi oma. OP is keeping flock(turkeys, ducks, chickens and geese) in a 24x30 building. They could be getting amonia poisoning in an inclosure like that. Just sayin. How was Vegas?

My pen is not much bigger not sure the size but I am sure I have more birds than most people. My covered area is 12x24 and is only particaly enclosed and has good ventilation. The run is made with 4-24 ft horse pannels that connect to the covered area in a odd shape. There is 21 geese, silky ducks, spotted ducks, runners, and some large breed ducks, chickens and turkeys. The ducks and geese make a mess in the pool area but other than a chicken falling in the pool it has not been a health hazard. There is the problem of feeding them there own food. Turkeys are more prone to die from moldy food. It is very important that there food does not get wet. They can also pick up botulism from the wet feed.

Vegas was great. Weather was the best. We treated my daughter, grandson, his 3 year old cousin and aunt (my daughter best friend) to there first trip to Las Vegas. I won a lot of jack pots to make things fun. Biggest was $560. So nothing huge but enough to play hard, eat good and come home with a few bucks. The only bump in the road is my daughter had a seizure as we were checking into the Palazzo. Our first day we spent it in the hospital and aunti babysat. I had see what was happening. I caught her before she fell so she was not hurt. It was her first seizure and the doctors don't know why it happened. My husband had seizures when he was in his late teens. I don't know if it is related to his genes. My daughter is 28.

Wow. I guess I got a little carried away. My chicken pen for 20 chickens is 75x30 and my two turkey pens for 6 breeders are 30x30. All the pens have inclosed roosts and are made with 5' horse wire. Plus all my birds are allowed to free range and if I loose one I get as stressed as shaun hatcthing poults.

Hello, Gang ! I have a friend that keeps assorted poultry in a 30x30 pole barn. Chickens, ducks, geese. guineas, peafowl, turkeys, and pigeons call this place home along with two pot-bellied pigs and four goats. This entire crew has run of 5 acres plus some wood lot. These critters are kept on dry deep litter with straw, leaves, and shavings. The birds all get the same ration(pigs and goats get their own grain ration). The birds and other animals are very healthy and produce many babies over the course of a season. I am seriously thinking about trying this type of housing next year but on a smaller scale. The only birds he lost this year were a 7 yr old barred rock (to a fox) and two young turkeys(to another friend's young dog).

As long as they free range and have lots of fresh air it shouldn't be a problem. But, if you're going to keep that many fowl in an area like that completely enclosed with no access to free range then personally, I think it's cruel and unfair to the flock.
But, hey that's just me.
Sorry, wasn't trying to hijack the thread.
