Thanks for the comments folks, especially the capture technique fancyfowl! I was thinking of a gillnet/cast net and wil try your idea if he wanders back.

Seems he went on a walk-a-bout this morning, headed north. My neighbor who has 20+ acres stopped by and told me he saw him feeding along his driveway. The owners never came back. If the peacock does, we'll do our best to keep him around....even though he and the chicks did not get along too well. BTW, his name is "Peaches".

And peafowl fear poop just cracked me up!

Peacocks are gorgeous... and he is a beauty!

but tell me, who is this "Harold" guy that they are always screaming for??

oh, and I too noticed the chicken airplane. Great photo!

When our old peacock escaped we finally caught him using an old shed. He really liked cheap dry cat food, which our neighbor put down for his cat every night.

After a week of the cat's food going to the peacock, the neighbor became fed up and put it in his shed for the cat to eat. The peacock figured that out and happily went in there every night to eat. Since he kept to a pretty strict schedule, one night when he meandered on in to eat the neighbor slammed the door shut behind him and gave us a call.

Dry cat food and a barn/shed/garage is my recommendation. Put the food in "his" territory rather than expecting him to roam elsewhere to get it.

Good luck

My Uncle used to have them, and to catch one, we'd have to sneak up behind him very slow and very quiet, and grab a handful of tail feathers. Not the most reliable way, ya might just end up with a handful of pretty feathers and a bald butted peacock, but it worked sometimes!

If you don't mind him being at your place, leave him alone. If your neighbors want him back tell them they can come get him. It's not like you went over to their property and took him!

BTW: very nice photo - chicken airplane

Well........"Peaches" went home tonight. The capture crew consisting of the owner, her teenage girl and teenage boy ....they made short work out of it. "Peaches" was herded into a fence, grabbed by the feet, and hoisted into a truck. It happened so quick he didn't have time to "fear poop" (bummer too cuz I was waiting for that!).

It was fun while it lasted, and we will miss that splash of color and fanned out tail...............but not enough to get ourselves some:)

Aww.. I was hoping he'd have a new home. Well at least they came down and grabbed him..

I love the way they look! I want them around just to drool over. LOL

Well you had a nice adventure over it, right?
