We have a small backyard flock of 23 - will be decreasing this before winter comes. The coop is cleaned weekly, and they have a large yard to go in. Mostly, they are in the coop at night, and when laying. We wash our hands after touching eggs/chickens, and after feeding and watering. Do we need to worry about Salmonella? What about when we raise meat birds next year?
