Can worms cause cold like symptoms?

I found the Safeguard equine dewormer, paste. Would any of you have an idea on the dosage for bantams and turkeys?

A "small pea" size amount of the paste given orally to bantams. I've never owned turkeys, cant help you with the dosage. A "large pea" size would be given orally to a large rooster (for size reference.)
Redose again in 10 days.

Maybe casportpony will know. Turkeys and peafowl are somewhat similar in size. At least ours are.

Otherwise, I'll have to do some math according to the dewormer tube.
2.3mg/lb says the box...I have no idea what a turkey weighs.

Yes, Casportpony owns turkeys and she'd know the dosage. She's very good figuring out measurements; kg's,mg's kt's and so on. I use Georgia math.
Okay, although I haven't used the paste (100mg/g) on poultry, I do believe that one gram is is very close to 1cc/ml. What that means is you will need to weigh your turkey and give no more than 1/2 a cc for every 2.2 pounds (1kg). This is 50mg/kg and I was told to do this by one of my avian vets. It is at the high end of the doses listed in veterinary literature, but I have used it on all types of birds (quail, turkeys, chickens, ducks, peafowl and guineas) of *all* ages and have not had any problems.

If you want me to calculate the dose for you, just let me know how much each bird weighs and I'll do the math. FWIW, my 33 pound turkey (15kg) gets 7.5 cc's of the liquid wormer. I know it seems like a lot, but poultry gets way more for their size than other animals.

So I had a thought... I have some paste here, so I will verify by using a scale that 1cc of paste does equal 1 gram. I think it will be close, but better safe than sorry. I will also see how much a pea size bit of paste weighs and let everyone know how many mg's are in it.

Some of my bantams weigh 300 grams, others weigh 900 grams and some of my turkeys weigh 6000 grams (6kg) and others weigh 15,000 grams (15kg). If you can't weigh then, just let me know what breed they are and I can figure out a dose for you.

Okay... So 1cc/ml of paste does weigh 1 gram

This is an empty 6cc/ml syringe and empty weighs 5 grams

This is the same 6cc syringe with 6cc's of paste. You'll notice the weight difference is 6 grams, so 6cc = 6 grams

In this picture, from left to right are 1/10cc (10mg of medicine), 1/4cc (25mg of medicine) and 1/2cc (50mg of medicine) and some peas I found at the bottom of my freezer. Please note for size reference that the tube of paste is the large 57 gram one, not the 25 gram one and that the other bottle is a liter of wormer.

Here is one of my Old English Bantums. at 50mg/kg, she gets which is .3cc's (30mg), which is about the same as the middle blob in the above picture.

I cannot find a scale on this farm that works!!

We have a couple of old ones that no longer work. And of course I can't get off the farm to go and buy one, I have no vehicle that works.

There's gotta be something around here somewhere.

I have full grown silkie hens and roosters, a couple of pullets and a cockerel (all 6 months old). I also have 2 cochin bantam hens and a 8 month old cockerel.
The turkeys, I don't know anything about different turkey breeds...these girls might be some sort of mixes anyway. We had a bourbon red tom who passed away due to old age, I think he's the father to one of the girls. After looking at pictures on Google, they look like something between a bourbon red and a narragansett.

Thank you for doing all this.

Sanna,

Can you pick up each one and try to guess how much they weigh? This is what I used to do before I bought scales. I would use stuff around the house/barn, like salt blocks, bags of grain, bags of flour/sugar/salt. If you can do that, I can give some suggestions on how much to give.
