Hey. I am a new member and I have a broody Black Australorp hen. First time one of my girls has ever gone broody. She is sitting on two eggs. The problem is, I am not allowed to have a rooster. So, can you buy fertilized hen eggs with no roosters, only hens inside? Or is that a dumb question?

I have read where people "claim" that you can tell the gender from the egg, but it's just one of those things that isn't true....

Unfortunately we all just have to hatch them and wait the allotted time to tell :) maybe get more eggs under her? My Australorp is hatching 9 eggs as we speak....big birds = lots of rooms for eggs! And greater chances of females ;)

Oh, and there are no stupid questions.....you just never know!

Thanks, only problem is, I dont know what to do if I should hatch some roosters. Id hate to have rooster stew one night.... Haha lol just kidding.

Oh goodness...we are going to be having rooster stew here in a week or so! Yummy!!! We were "suppose" to have 2 roosters....well, you know how it goes.....we have 5 :barnie

And who knows how many my broody is hatching will be boys....just comes with the territory!

Oops! LOL once my moms friend ordered 10 fertilized eggs and they were all roosters except for 1!!! LOL!!!

Yeah unfortunately you won't be able to tell by the egg whether they are male or female. But you can look up how to feather sex the chick once they are 1-3 days old and then you should be able to tell pretty well how many hens or roos you have
