One of my chickens just got taken out by a peregrine falcon. I didn't see it happen but saw it almost immediately after it happened. I scared the falcon away and the chicken hasn't been eaten by the bird. Is it safe for me to process it for consumption? Sad, but I don't want to waste it. I saw the post about eating chickens killed by foxes, dogs but nothing about birds.

I know I should have been watching more closely and have them under a covered run but it's a nice day and I was right there. So no lectures about being a better chicken mom please.

It should be fine.

You may want to trim around where the talons penetrated, but there's no reason it wouldn't be safe to eat.

Thank you for responding so quick! I'm plucking feathers now and it looks to be in pretty good shape. This is my first time doing this. Wish me luck!

Elapsed time is the governing thing , and what caused the kill.
