Can you eat fertilized eggs

I am thinking about having a rooster but I want to know if I do can I eat fertilized eggs

We have roosters and we eat the eggs. On rare occasions we come across an egg with slight development, so we just toss it. Because of having roosters, though, we always crack the egg into a separate bowl, check it for anything strange, then add it to whatever we're making

Is there a reason that you throw out fertilized eggs and dont eat them. Are you not suppose to eat them. I am a total newb to chickens.

The above poster only throws out the egg if it has started to develop into a chick. That would only happen if the egg was missed in the nest box and sat on by a chicken to start the chick growing process within the yolk.

It is perfectly fine to eat fertilized eggs, just be aware that you need to check that the eggs are freshly laid when you collect them and crack into a small bowl before adding to whatever you are making to make sure that a chick is not forming in the egg. That is good practice whenever using your home-raised eggs.

The store eggs are already checked for any problems and the reject eggs used for other purposes. Eggs with small meat spots are sold to other companies that use them in whatever they are making - cake mixes, ice cream, batter for fried chicken ... the list is practically endless.
