Can you have just two ducks?

I started ff with just two. They did great together. Then I couldn't resist the urge and got more. Now I have six and they live inside. Lol a duck just needs friends around to keep them company whether it's another duck, a bunny, chickens, turkeys etc.

I would think up how often you could spend time with your duck? will it be inside or outside? If you are gone most of the day, or the duck will be outside and can't stay in with the bunnies, I'd recommend to. Two aren't really much harder to care for than just one. I mean, I keep six inside, and it isn't that bad. lol... (I also have parakeets and cockatiels too, lol 13 birds altogether). Two are fun because the interactions between them are fun to watch. I've got so many videos of my ducks following each other around, quacking together... etc... you could do well with two girls or two boys...

I am so excited--sounds like two ducks CAN be happy. Of course, as you all warned, ducks are addictive. I kinda had the same thing happen with the chickens but have kept myself to a smaller flock. Someone told me that chickens often die because of sickness or predators, etc., but a few of ours having been living and eating without laying for a while! I figured I would lose a few, but no, still have the same ones we started with years go!

In any case, I am definitely going to consider getting two over the next few months. I noticed that there are a few hatcheries that will ship only two, but I may see if I can drive nearby and pick them up. Will be a gamble to see if I can get two females!

If I can't find Anconas, what about khaki campbells--are they good layers?

A friend of mine ordered two extras and so I have two Welshies coming as of Feb 28. I am very excited and can't wait for ducks!!

I have just one peking duck a male I'm almost positive. He loves my saint bernard "I think she would eat him if given the chance, by being to rough" and the wiener dog my oldest one is his best-est friend, the duck follows her everywhere. I am gonna get some better video of this this year.

Well, that's something of a theoretical question, isn't it? I suppose it would be possible, in a world where only two ducks exist, to have only two ducks. And yes, they'd probably be perfectly happy that way.

But this is the real world we live in, and it's a tough place to be a duck addict. There are ducks on craigslist, ducklings in the feed store in March, auction site on BYC, incubators, and duck rescue organizations, and every one of them has at least one duck (and by "one" I mean several) you need.

The answer is still yes, you CAN have only two ducks. But before you step into the venture, you really need to understand something: Duck Math is different. The word "two" is only a theoretical construct anyway. You've been warned.

Ducklover179. I have bunnies and ducks and I really wouldn't house them together. I don't think that they would be that great company for each other, unless maybe raised from birth together. Rabbits are very social with humans or other rabbits, but not so much with other species. My ducks and rabbits can see each other, but not be in each other's space. Plus, rabbits are VERY good escape artists, so keeping them in a large area that you need to keep ducks in is just asking for trouble IMO.

I missed the bit about ducks & bunnies. I agree with veronicasmom, not a good match. They probably wouldn't directly hurt each other, so they might be okay with play time together, but bunnies would be very unhappy living in the muck that ducks create. Bunnies live close to the ground and they're not water-proof, so putting them in with ducks just would not be a good idea. Also, ducks make their water filthy instantly, and bunnies like clean water.

Sorry! It sure would be cute having them together--Easter overload!! But I don't think it's practical if you want happy bunnies.
