Hello! This is actually my first post here! I'm almost completelly new to chicken raising and right now I amor raising a about 2/ 2.5 month baby. Unfortunatelly the seller didnt give me much information about her but after digging a bit I believe she's a barren rock but I'm not 100% sure. Also I dont know her sex but by guessing using the apearance she might be a he? Would any of you help me with this identifiyng? Any tips for New chicken owners are also apreciated!

EDIT: THANK YOU SO MUCH TO EVERYONE WHO REPLIED!!! Now I know I have a loving boy on my hands and will do my best to give him the best home I can provide! And for sure will be a lot smarter when buying my next few chickens!
I fell so welcome and thankfull!
Have a good day everyone!:D

Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

Your pic isn't working.. Maybe try posting it pressing the button that looks like a mountain next to the smiley face in the text editor? :fl

Did you get only one chicken? They need friends. :pop

Barred Plymouth Rock and also a cockerel (a male chicken) good luck!

You definitely have a little Barred Rock cockerel. Chickens should always have other chickens. One chicken is a lonely, unhappy chicken.
How can you bem sure? I am very curious, after research I Found a lot of confliting websites.

And for friends we are trying to arrange that Very soon! So he can have lots of friends and space!

A BR pullet at that age would never have such red, well developed comb and wattles. My 15 week old pullet isn't nearly as far along in her comb and wattle development as this little guy is! And hers are still very pale.

:frow:welcomeNice to meet you! Welcome to the wonderful world of chickens! There is much to learn and you are in the best possible place to learn all there is to know about raising chickens. You've already learned your first valuable lesson. There are some unscrupulous chicken sellers out there. :barnie Finding someone who will reliably sell you healthy chickens of the correct breed and sex might be a challenge. Good luck! Have fun! Hope it won't be very long before you get moved so you can get that boy some girls:wee
