I'm voting black sex-link. Here's mine before she started laying...

Here's full body shot when she was even younger.

She's darker now, and has that green sheen to her feathers.

Oh yeah, I'm thinking black sex link too now that I see your hen. 'Course, I don't see any black sex link on the McMurray site either but certainly they're more common than the copper maran so if they were going to send me something they didn't actually sell regularly seems like it would be the sex link.

I agree that Marans seem unlikely, but those ARE pretty dark eggs! Whatever they are, they're pretty and lay very nice eggs!

McMurray does advertise black sex-link. They're called Black Stars. Look them up.

I looked up the "Black Stars" on McMurray's website. Like jossanne said, they are advertised as black sex links. They look just like the pullets in question. Would have made it easier if McMurray just called them Black Sex Links... And maybe mentioned how dark the eggs are...

My Black Stars from McMurray have just started laying and they don't lay a dark egg like that. The eggs are brown with a pinkish cast to them. Very pretty but not chocolate brown like your eggs. They are great chickens though, I love them!

Hmmm, that's very interesting...

I vote for the OP to call McMurray and see if any information could be shared.

It's starting to seem like these poor hens are never going to know who their parents were. I'm so intrigued!
