Can you identify the colour of this Coturnix quail?

Haha! One alfalfa flavoured ice cream coming your way!

Ok great, I'm glad to know my quail is most likely a silver. I feel really lucky I got one silver; it really stands out amongst the majority jumbo browns. Not to mention, it is one of the calmer, sweeter, tamer birds :)

Only thing I am not looking forward to is vent sexing!

I wonder if its just me or my generation, being a country boy I've been familiar with alfalfa most of my life...

But why is it every time I hear or see the word, I get a visual of that kid from the little rascals with the hair sticking straight up?

I'm 27 and I get the Alfalfa from Little Rascals reference. My toddler has hair that sticks up like that, but fluffier like a chick.

I chose alfalfa because I hear quail like eating it? Not saying you're a quail... Unless you want to be... :)

That was a great show, Oddly enough Alfalfa was dead before I ever saw him and I was 27 in 1991

He was shot and killed in 1959 I think, a few years before I was born.

SO, LocoCodornizMojer

How many of the silver birds did you wind up with?
Out of the 18 that hatched, 2 were golden and only 1 was silver. I wish I had 2 silver so I could mate them! The silver is so pretty. Turns out it's a roo :) I put him in with 3 brown hens. I wonder what colour their babies will be?

No white hens. These first lot of quails were sort of just a trial to see if quail keeping was for me (I got the eggs from a stranger who put up an ad on Gumtree). Ive decided I like quails so I am planning on moving up to some colossal sized jumbo quail (apparently the biggest in Australia) from a reputable breeder and I will ask for white ones. Is silver hard to come by where you live?
