I have eleven hens and one rooster, but I was thinking of adding turkeys to my flock. I've heard people say that it's a great idea, but I've also heard that Turkeys can carry a disease that can put your Chickens in danger.
I want your oppinion on whether or not I should get turkeys and if you've had any problems mixing the two.

But no matter what, I do NOT want my ladies to suffer just because I thought Turkeys were a good idea.

EDIT: I'm not going to get turkeys.

I have a turkey and chickens together kind of. I have slats that allow my chickens to exit but not my turkey. He stays in the big pen. My crazy neighbor said that he chased them to their cars. LOL he wasn't crazy Henry really did. But my girls go in the big pen in the evening to roost. My turkey has killed 4 cats to date and fought off a fox that was traying to get my girls. He has been sick but pretty sure that he was born with his conditon.

Woah, he killed cats?
There are a lot of outdoor cats in my neighborhood.

I wouldn’t. It is actually the other way around, chickens can be carriers of Blackhead Disease, which can be fatal for turkeys. That isn’t the reason I would not mix them, though. Turkeys are big and can easily squash smaller hens, chicks, and anyone else they so please. Especially the toms. I have a flock of 6 turkeys (1 tom and 5 hens), and they can be really aggressive. I wouldn’t risk it. Can you house the turkeys elsewhere? Keep them in a separate coop?

Good info. By the way you put that, I don't think Turkeys will work for me. Thanks.
