I love your nest boxes!! The second set of pictures I was a little curious why there was a tunnel behind they nest, but then I saw the second photo and understood. I LOVE the way its built. Its easy to get the eggs and nice and dark for the girls to lay! I wonder if this would put a stop to all my girls trying to use ONE nest when there are 3. Ive never understood why they only want to use one when they have three.
Now that I think about it, the one they use is farthest from the doors and windows and its the darkest area. I'll show these pictures to DH and see if we can build something like this for my girls in their soon-to-be new coop.
I love your pictures of the nesting boxes... We are in the process of building and that is a great idea of putting a tunnel in ...then they won't fight over a perticular one!!!
If its not too much trouble..Is there anyway I could get the measurements from your nest boxes? Like how much room is between the wall and where the nests begin? I guess you could call it the 'walkway' area? Im guessing 8 inches or so, but I know pictures can be misleading sometimes. With size that is. Ive decided that this is how I want to build mine. The coop we're about to build is going to have a few small windows and Im afraid the girls wont like the nest boxes they have now, too much light will be coming in. I think the way yours is set up would make it nice and dark for them(which they love). Thanks.
This is one out of TWO my DH and I made last night-took about 1 1/2 hours 3/4 plywood and a birch tree branch for the front bar...didnt cost thing. The branches blew off our birch Trees and the wood is recycled-
All these pics are so cool. I love everyones nest boxes specially the hallway behind the boxes. I am imagining a hen going down the back of the nest boxes peeking in each box to find an empty one, like finding an empty stall in a public restroom.
