Went out to close up and our resident 'possum was chewing on a bone near the coop. Usually sticks to the sunflower seeds out front but 24" of snow calls for desperate action I guess. The chickens ignore him mostly.

No we did not kill him. He's been hanging around for years.

Ew!

We trapped and successfully relocated 6 (yes, I said 6!) opossums a couple of months ago. The were eating all of our eggs, it was horrible.

Some will likely be horrified that you let him live, but if you got things well in hand and neither you or the chickens have a problem...well then I'm happy to see everyone alive and well in harmony.

I actually like possums, I think they are cute. This is a very handsome fellow!

Cool pic. I like possums as long as they make no problems. Relocating is just giving someone else a problem.

I live in a city of over 400,000, it's kind of hard for anything to be relocated and not end up a nuisance to somebody else.

However, there are many state parks that are also wildlife refuges in our area that were more than willing to accomodate some wild opossums that we captured.

I'd rather the creature be moved somewhere of a more natural environment than take a chance at it getting ran over by a car or shot by somebody who thinks it's vermin.

IMHO.

Hehehee...he doesn't seem camera shy. I don't mind the wildlife hanging out either, as long as my own dogs, cats, and chickens aren't being harrassed. I'd probably be a sucker and throw some cat food out for him, but then he might decide he's got a cozy set-up and never leave...lol.
