I just realized a few of my Orsheln birds were never vaccinated for Marek's... or I suppose anything else (I am pretending they didn't have it, just in case).

Can you still vaccinate them? I only have two birds who don't have this, but was curious. One goes out with me a lot so I'm worried she may catch something.

From my understanding, they must be vaccinated the day they are hatched. I'm not sure, but I seem to remember that Mareks is more likely to affect large flocks, or commercial operations, so if you have a small flock you probably don't have anything to worry about. Hopefully someone else pipes in, but I'm pretty sure about having to have it done the day they are hatched.

Only one of my chickens has been vaccinated and the one that is was from another byc member I got my chicks from the feed store. I don't worry about it if it comes I will cross that bridge. But I do think they have to be day or 2 old to get vaccinated.

Believe I will just stalk this thread.....I have been trying to find out about it myself....seems that backyard flocks maybe don't have to vaccinate????

Still....with an incubator full of eggs I would really like to know what we should do.

Well the reason why I ask is I have a little pet bantam who comes with me to a lot of places... she travels from place to place, meets lots of people, etc. Since I'm out in the country (and even sometimes trekking into the city) I worry about her catching something, because let's face it, the country folks out here must have chickens so their children must come into contact with other poultry too? She stays at home a lot, but once in awhile, I take her right back to the farm and she hangs out with my flocks of birds.

I'd be devastated if something happened to my little one pound ball of feather that drives me crazy most days. Who'd wake me up at the wee hours of the morning?!
