Canada geese nesting this late?

I know its very late into season but my Canada goose has dug a hole in the ground and for the past couple days has been spending all her time sitting around it or on it. They appear to me molting but would it be to late for possibly getting eggs...it maybe wishful thinking on my part but you never know someone might have had this happen before. Anyone?

I wanna note they didn't lay last year after being moved from there orginal owner and haven't so far this year but they did in there second or third year there going on 5 years old. So this will be the second season for them not laying if they don't. Is there something I can do to help them along next season if they don't?

I don't have Canadas but I wouldn't think she'd start to lay if molting, it could be just a hormonal thing. or wishful thinking on her part too.
Be sure to feed her lots of calcium rich foods, along with their feed, Kale, collards Romaine lettuce etc. also RURU suggest getting the wild bird feed at walmart I think it's called Porch and Patio and it has calcium rich nuts which she says her Geese love and she feeds this during mating. I plan on adding it to mines feed next mating season. All the best with your new geese.

I have tried the wild bird feed and neither of them will even touch it........its been in the coop for **** near a week and I have seen them make a couple nibbles at it but they have no interest in it whatsoever.

What wild bird feed did you try may I ask? I am not into Canadian geese but it is just too late in the season for breeding. When they are in molt they do not breed, not that I know of.

As for feeding them no experience here with Canadians. But Romaine, Kale and try different things to see what they like. Do not offer spinach! The bird mixture I offer my geese is Either Patio, Porch and deck it is all shelled nuts and has calcium in it. The other is Nuts and Berries. I know Canadians like corn because they are always in the fields after it is cut. But mainly see them on grass.

As RURU has said it's not plain bird seed, it's a blend of nuts and fruit. buy a small bag and mix it into their feed that way they are getting both, but yep grass and corn seem to be their favorites but feeding a lot of corn won't get her into shape for next years breeding season. My flock loves whole corn and Ifeed it as a treat along with meal worms, but they also get a wholesome diet along with it. Others would probably frown on me feeding corn but a good friend on here said her Avian vet recommends it for her flock.

Miss Lydia I found out from the year before I had feed regular water fowl fed to my geese and did not change it for winter. Then wondered why we had 90 eggs and only one goslings that year. The reason why is because gander and female do not need that much protein in the winter! So last year for the winter I had my feed dealer mix u some Multiflock 300 pounds of that and 200 pounds of oats. I fed that all winter and into Spring and we had more goslings this year hatch.
But I still need more incubators because I can not get all the eggs collected up from them to hatch.

But learned a lesson from that. Got my protein level down to 15%.

The bird food I recommended to use does not have that small birds seed that maybe you are thinking about. The Porch, Patio and Deck has shelled, sunflower seeds, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, pastico nuts, safflower seed and I can not remember them all. But the Nuts and Berries Is also mainly nuts but this one has shelled sunflower seeds in it along with several type of berries I believe. My Sebastopol geese just love it. As I tell everyone even the new geese which are young adults when I purchase them love it!

Do not get me wrong I do feed some corn here and there but it is corn I cook and we leave over. So take it out and call the geese and they come running when they see that pan holding the corn!!!

So when do you start feeding the porch patio mix into their feed RURU? when mating season starts? and last year I did mix oats into their feed I'll do that again this year in the fall for winter feeding.

I wait until the ganders have bred the girls and the laying starts. This way the ganders are still fertile from the less protein throughout the winter. Then the girls get the nuts so they keep the calcium going into their system while laying and producing the eggs.

Appreciate the advise, now since Missy laid so many eggs this season and is just now getting over being broody, can I feed her the mix to get her back in shape?
