Canadians check in here....

Midisland Vancouver Island checking in!

Would love to find breeders on the Island! Particularly for Swedish Flower Hens or Spitzhaubens, but open to others. Also wouldn't mind making friends as chicken-crazy as me.

Hi CGY GRL;
I am also a newbie.  Hoping for our first eggs within the next 4 - 6 weeks.  I am in the Lakeland district - outside of Elk Point, AB.  I bought straight run day olds and am now at the point where it is time to process my extra roos.  Kinda scary, I guess we will see whether I have what it takes very shortly!!

How did you make out with the roo's? We did that too for the first time this spring. A few tears (myself and the kids) but I would say a good experience overall. I like for our kids to have respect for the fact that their meat was once a living, breathing animal and not just something that we bought from a store. Hope it all went well!!

Hi everyone,

PEI here.

I just got scammed by a guy who supposedly brought me 4 pullets. They are all roosters :(

This was going to be my first time :( I moved here last summer.

Hey guys
I'm new to chicken farming....I was hoping someone can help me figure out if I have any roosters....
I suspect 2 RIR Roosters. 4-5 months old.

I've attached a photo pointing out the two suspects.

Any help is much appreciated

Based on their legs looking much larger than the others, the brighter red combs and wattles, and their tail feathers less full...I'd go with potential roo too. You could always check their neck feathers and see if their pointed too. That would indicate a roo. At this age though, they should be starting to crow I think...at least my roo did, so. much. crowing! LOL
I don't really know RIR's though, but the neck feathers should be a good indication. If their rounded, you've got a hen.
