Canadians check in here....

Welcome aboard quailgirlie & canadian flocks! I'm from Scugog, and about to enter my first hatch-a-long here! You can join by posting on the 4th Annual Easter Hatch-a-long thread. We set our chicken eggs March 9.

Hope you enjoy this site as much as I do! TONS of good info here!

St. John's Newfoundland here.

We are new to raising backyard chickens. Having difficulty finding chicks. Looking for Australorp, Wyandotte, Maran, or other breed that are cold tolerant. Prefer not to have 'barnyard mixes.' City allows 3 hens only so ordering from hatcheries not an option. Are there other Newfoundlanders on here who can help or suggest where we can look?

Welcome lloydf! I would suggest googling Newfoundland chicken breeders & see if anybody has extra pullets they'd sell. These turn up more often in the summer months, I've found. You just never know though, unless you ask. Best of luck to you!

Welcome!!
And I was going to suggest kijiji.ca and look for some in your area. They are updated in real time so you may find some good ads if you check every day. I will be getting some of the breeds you are looking for, but not until the summer months -and I suspect that will be later than you want them. But I will continue to breed and after October, should have fertile eggs to ship as well.

Hi all - just popped in to say hi from n. BC. I'm setting about 30 more eggs today for an Easter hatch! Anyone else plan on filling their barns this spring? I have already set Muscovy, Khaki x Welsh Harlequin ducks and today I'll set in Wyandottes, Ameraucana, Frizzles, a few Polish and a mystery hatch of 10 various eggs that were shipped to me all the way from New Bruswick (via the Mystery Swap at A Speckled Hen). What's in your bators?
