Canadians check in here....

Covid delays too? My run was built really oddly because the only hardware cloth I could easily access was only 2ft high - I got the last roll in stock - I don't think there was anything else for months! I'm trying to build a movable run and that's been quite an ordeal too.
Still supplies are short. My husband is expanding our coop and we are using old pine siding from our garden shed to finish it as the siding we want is out of stock still.

Love your birds. I found it hard finding chicks or layers. The feed stores and hatchery were sold out. I had to get mine off Kijiji. I have one CCL (lost the other one :(), 3 Australorps, 4 mixed EE's (2 are roosters), and 3 laying hens(1 EE, 1 speckled sussex mix and one unknown breed). The 6 pullets have not yet reached laying age. It is hard to get any interesting breeds up here.

We finally got our fencing for the run that we ordered in the spring. I have a patchwork temporary run right now. Hoping to get the new one built before the snow comes.
Thank you! It has been hard to find birds! Sorry you lost one.

I hope you get your run done soon too, now that you have your materials! You have some nice breeds there! They will lay nicely for you. I have my first Australorps this year. I ended up with two pullets. I was going to sell one but decided, too pretty so keeping both. Hence a coop expansion! :celebrate

Nice to find a thread for Canadians! I received my chicks in June. I had ordered them last fall and still two Speckled Sussex were replaced by Buff Orpingtons due to shortages.
Oddly enough, they misidentified two of my breeds and I ended up with a Welsummer and a Brahma that I hadn't ordered, but they are both great, so I am happy!

Ohhh! That's okay!! Brahma are beautiful!! Never had either ...
Yet!:clap:thumbsup

Oh, that's great to hear. Isabella's foot feathering makes her look slightly ridiculous when she runs, but oh my goodness, she is so cute!
One of my EE cross pullets must be part silkie. Looks like she has snowshoes (and runs like it too 😆), there are so many long feathers on her feet. I am also worried about winter for her. I can just picture her feet becoming big snowballs! I am wondering if I should trim them?

She is gorgeous! At least in the Yukon once winter starts it doesn't really melt until spring. I would think that continual cycles of melting and freezing would be worse for the feather footed.
The running with snowshoes image is a perfect description!

Thanks.
Yes, in my part of Ontario, we do get thawing and freezing. More so in the last decade with climate change. Used to be just one possible thaw mid winter, now there are several. We also gets lots of heavy wet snow. Great for snowmen, not so good for feathers or fur on the feet.
