Canadians check in here....

Hi everyone! I live west of Ottawa on a few hundred acres with my husband, two boys, cats and dogs. I've got a a bunch of eggs in the incubator (type will be a total surprise it they hatch, it's our first time) and 14 - day-olds from Freys on order for the end of March. My husband brought 6 older chickens home last summer and they got spooked by my pup going into their coop (I put some tasty leftovers in for them, stupid mistake) and they weren't living their best chicken life anymore so I rehomed them to a dog-free farm. Now, we're trying from scratch! We learned a lot from the first birds and need to make a few mods to our coop, which is a converted ice shack. I'm really hoping I get it right this time and I'm glad to be a part of this great community!

Hi there! I'm in rural Ottawa (south west, not far from Kemptville). Where did you get your incubator eggs? Do you know what the mix possibilities are? Please share pictures when they start hatching! So exciting!

Hi! You're not far from me at all, I'm discovering a huge chicken community all around me. The eggs came from the people I gave my unhappy old girls too. They have a lot of chickens roaming around so I'm not 100% sure what I ended up with. There are a nice mix of egg colours so I'm assuming there are 3-4 different mixes in the bunch. They had Orpintons, Welsummers and Austrolops mixes running around for sure. We're pretty excited!

Welcome JoJo! I have ten pullets in the Yukon. I am a beginner too. This is my first flock and I just love having chickens. I had no idea that they were so quirky and exuberant!

Hi. Also from south-west of Ottawa near Kemptville. I have Muscovy ducks but help with my daughter's mixed flock of chickens and peacocks. We sell most of our eggs during laying season. The peacock eggs usually got stolen by predators so last year we changed it up. The peacock eggs are about the same size as Muscovy eggs so I started switching them. Worked out quite well as long as I kept a close eye out for first signs of hatching. Missed a few and the ducks killed them probably thinking, "What the hell is that thing." I guess they haven't read the Ugly Duckling story. The rest I finished hatching in the oven, a process I perfected using the oven light and a spray bottle. Now chicks and ducklings are real cute, but a spare room full of baby peacocks is way over the laugh meter.:lau

I looked up what each of those look like and they are nice looking birds! Good luck with your hatching. When are they due?
