Candeling and hatching diary.

Yeah my first batch I wanted to candle every day but when I got to where I had all three of my bators full I just couldn't peek at all the eggs now I just peek at the lighter eggs although I do check everyone at about the 10 day mark and pull those that are in fertile or with obvious blood rings. going to try and come up with some way to label the trays in my Redwood incubators so I know what dates are in what trays. As I stated before I will be doing all my lock downs in the HovaBators. that way I am able to get the humidity up high enough and I have windows to monitor the eggs. This was something I did for my kids lol but I am the one who is head over heels into it lol. I lost my 2/22 batch so I am going to have a couple weeks with no eggs. but then I will be busy again for a while.

My 6 year old is totally excited about this. She's been helping me candle and turn the eggs. We have a friend that keeps not only the types of birds that I like with purpose, but she also keeps things like those bantam silkie chickens and call ducks, and my six year old LOVES those. When she gets older, she'll enjoy doing 4H and FFA, and she can breed and raise her own ornamentals. I might too, who knows. It's so much fun to see her excited about it though, just as much as me I think. My 3 year old? She won't get it until she sees them hatching, LOL. But she loves the little animals too.

My farmers market eggs were sold to me as eating eggs. I didn't ask and they weren't marked as fertile, just a lucky guess on my part. I should have asked what kind of chickens they had and if they had a rooster but I didn't.

For kicks and giggles I just called our local co-op and asked about where they got their eggs from. Not only did the girl think I was crazy I think, but I also found out that our eggs aren't as local as they make them sound. HEH.

It is very unusual to have a farmer's market where I live this time of year, we still have a couple of feet of snow on the ground. This one was inside a mom n pop health food store and it was just meat and eggs.

Where are you at Mortie we still have a lot of snow as well but it is finally beginning to melt although they are calling for snow again tonight. I am over the snow and bitter cold I have coops to build etc.

Yeah I have eggs about to hatch and no coop, and I can't even build one right now because it's so dang cold and all the snow on the ground.

I'm in north east wisconsin.
