Candeling and hatching diary.

Ok. I know I'm posting this incorrectly! But HAVE to run out the door for work! Important question: My ducklings are due to hatch today! Eggs have been moving for 3 days and really rocking the past 2! I can hear one chirping inside and the other clicking! They are really moving those eggs but no cracks in the shell yet! Should I have the eggs on a flat smooth surface or in a stationary position so the duckling can maneuver without the egg rolling around? How long is too long at this point before he should crack the shell? What to do????? Thx!!!

If you have them in a turner, YES, get them FLAT, they will never make it if they stay in the Turner. Ducks have to be flat, not sure why haven't figured that part out but I have tried all different kinds of ways and laying flat is the BEST thing for them.

What kind of ducks are they?

Look what I woke up to my first time ever trying to incubator eggs
400

Yes, they are flat, I stopped turning day before yesterday. They are flat on the incubator floor. Just thought by now they'd have cracked the shell... They are runner ducks. Just two eggs I got as a bonus when I ordered sebastopol eggs....200.00 later, all I have are the ducklings....the goose eggs weren't good/wouldn't develop. These will be the most expensive runner ducks EVER! IF they hatch ok!! Lol.

OH GOOD, they have to be flat. NO Ducks take longer then chickens, what they do is they make a hole, and they make that hole BIGGER AND BIGGER AND BIGGER until it's big enough for them to get out. Don't be shocked that once they are out you will see this green snot ball looking thing, It's grose but Totally normal...

Thx for the warning about the green stuff!!!
I would have been concerned!!! I originally bought five sebastopol eggs. $125.00 plus shipping. They had a hard trip and none developed. The lady I bought from was very nice and included the two duck eggs in that shipment... She also replaced some of the goose eggs and I thought overnight delivery might give me some hatching results....that cost another hundred bucks! Still no hatching goose eggs... So... I have that amount invested in these two surviving eggs! I don't blame the lady I bought from. I've since researched and evidently goose eggs are really tough to successfully ship....I ordered 15 "show Quality" frizzle eggs from strum ergs.... They arrived in terrible shape! Very poor packaging! Out of 15.....I have FOUR developing.....sigh....
