Candeling and hatching diary.

Wonderful shots! Spot on here today too, except I have one that's moving but still looks to be around day 8 or so... I'mma keep going with it since it looks good otherwise. All of my others look like yours.

Day 13 pics Chicks are very babies are very active I will post links to some videos later I refreshed the batteries in my flashlight amazing the difference it makes I also gave into temptation and ordered a 2000 lumen flashlight hope I don't blind the babies lol. the Temp is doing great hoping I get my first day 21 hatches instead of the day 24 day 25 hatches I have been getting.

Also wanted to include the view when candeling the pointy end of the egg I have found that this becomes important later in the hatching I do not put my eggs in lock down if there is too much clear space in the bottom.

Here are pics of my Shipped eggs I put the set dates above them please note that they all had detached air cells so I do not pick them up for candeling.

3/8 so 4 days along white egg look at the veining already showing very shaky air cell it moves like jello.

another 3-8 egg note how bad the air cell is it extends down the side of the egg. Their aircells may be growing a bit to fast so I increased my humidity.

this is a 3-6 Egg great veining.

sounds like they're about 1 and a half -2 weeks old? If this is what I think it is, this is just the chick on one side of the egg, and the rest is just growing space in egg for him to turn/get into position etc.
If it's really dark, probably means you have dark brown/black chicks. If it is dark and then there is a fine, black ring around outer edges, this means chick may have died.
You can never quite tell what's going on in there. Don't assume any have died, you'll have to wait it out. When you candle/top up water bath, give each egg a quick sniff. Chuck out any that smell like rotting meat. Mine always kinda smell a little like warm plastic from my bator, this is fine :)

Photos would be good, try setting camera on flat surface hands-free, turn off flash and manually adjust focus, then you can use both hands, one for egg and one to hold torch.

This is the egg #1 I don't think it has a chick In it cos I seem to be empty
400

Egg #2 seems empty Too
400

Same with egg #3

Egg #4 is the silkies egg it's one of the ones with half chick half air
400

In this pic u can kinda see the air on the side

And the last egg, #5, was too dark to get on camera but it was kind like egg #4 I reckon it has a chick in it :)

Quote: I agree with you the first eggs look clear have you tried shining the light through the actual air cell that is when you will see the veining. It is kind of hard to tell on eggs when you candle from the side or at least that is what I have learned from experience.

Today is day 13 for me on this batch. I'm noticing that I'm having to amp up the ventilation to keep the humidity under 70% and the temp keeps wanting to rise. My incubator is a DIY made one with a lid, so I've been slightly opening the lid each day to compensate for this. Is this normal?

Somehow I've been able to keep humidity and temps good, and ventilation must be good with this since the open lid must be allowing for cooler air exchange. All of my eggs look great. I did have one quitter of the one that wasn't growing, I think it must have quit around day 8 or 10... I marked it then as a quitter but I didn't smell anything so I kept on it until yesterday when I finally saw a blood ring of good size.

My first batch of eggs ever was shipped in, over half were infertile or never started developing, I dropped one, had one quitter. What's left is doing great! So far. If I get one good chick out of this I'll feel like my first go around was a success.

This was also my 200th post!

And I am having the opposite issue with all the ventilation holes closed my humidity does not want to stay above 16% my pans of water are drying out and having to be replaced every 12 hours it must be very dry here. Do you have a fan in your incubator?

No fan in either of my incubators, but I will be adding a fan to my next one for next year. Still air here.

Also, I wanted to update- I'm seeing my eggs move, is this normal around this time?
