Candeling and hatching diary.

Lacrystol, They are first time mommies, but they haven't been sitting eggs much in daytime since the 21 day point when the first 3 hatched, last Saturday, and the eggs were almost cold. I candled to see if fertile, but I was told to throw away all 24 day eggs as not good, and I cracked one instead of throwing 6 in trash. The yolk was fully used up, chick was huge, but I think large intestine was outside of anus, so I am fairly sure it would not have hatched in any case. 5 more I haven't cracked in my hot humid green house. Suggestions?

OMG, that's horrible.. WOW.. Candle them, see if they are moving or alive. How hot is it in the Green house? They need the temp at around 100 and humidity up to about 60-65, do you think your pretty close??

Yes. Unfortunately. I do believe. About 5 to 7 days different. I do not know for sure. My friend said it is possible to stagger hatch, but, I should at least give the viable chicks a chance to hatch.

TRY THIS, Keep humidity at 50-55 and Temp at ??? Did you say you had a Fan? If so, then 100 If not 101. Keep those setting at that and see what happens DON"T TOUCH THE BATOR AT ALL.

except those that are NOT suppose to be in Lockdown. But when you turn those ones, Turn off your fan, quickly turn them and close it back up..

No fan. I have gotten the turn down to less than 3 minutes.

Temp is holding steady at 101. I will bring up my humidity today.

ONLY bring it up if some are suppose to be Locked down? Otherwise WAIT until that day comes.

It's 88 degees here with 40 percent humidity outside the greenhouse, and I have a tilapia tank with plants for filter, water falling inside, I think it is over 100. Keep promising myself a greenhouse thermometer. Am going out now to see if they are doing anything, and if the mommies have gone to nest for the night I will put the eggs back under them. Candling, these eggs are totally dark and full, can't see a darned thing. The eggs are on my "raise 15 degree" seed sprouting mat, inside a plant tray so if they hatch they don't fall off the table.

Day 14!!!
6 out of 8 chicks moving around. My air cells are shrinking some. And my eggs are losing weight.

I have two gosling eggs still two weeks away, but growing!

I am kind of wondering if they aren't growing too fast, chicks and goslings...

Could this be caused by too high temps in the incubator? It has never been over 102°.

My rescued clutch, several seem to have stopped. 2 seem to be growing and moving, but seem like they still have a ways to go.

I upped my humidity to 40%. And in a couple days, I need to up it for the rescued clutch.

I am keeping my fingers crossed. Still anything could happen.

I have 63 put in lockdown lastnight with 3 external pips right now. I don't have enough bators atm to set the 9 dozen eggs I have sitting to go in. Tomorrow is set for getting the 2 monster bators wired and running so I can get my eggs in and fulfill the orders that I had come in over the weekend. I will set up one just for incubating and one for hatching. Each will hold 150 dozen eggs so I won't ever have a problem again with no room to set or hatch. The only dilema at this time is getting enough fertile prod red eggs as the person wanting them only has one roo to 70 hens, I did find her 5 more Rhode Island Reds but she expects all to hatch red as she's Amish and they don't allow different colored chickens in her family. Prod Reds are a hybrid so may not hatch all red and I'm trying to explain this to her and using RIR roos will help keep the color more accurate. They want 300 prod reds and now 300 Cornish x which I've never raised but will have to look into them as I just got another call tonight wanting Cornish. I never knew how fast word would travel when I purchased these industrial cabinets. My husband as agreed to allow me to start a small hatchery and I'm awaiting antigen to have someone come certify me for state flock tested. I went to a swap last Saturday and sold all but 3 chicks, good turnout for me. Theirs another swap this coming Saturday but it's an hr and half drive one way and I'm waiting to see if I can bring roo/hen from each breeding pen to test to allow me to sell chicks. The first swap allowed me to do it that way as I had sold all last year and tests were all neg on my birds but this year Wisconsin changed the regulations a little. Problem is they now only get antigen in 1000 dose bottles and most testers don't want to buy it. Always something that stands in the way. I can get a tester to come out this week but it will cost me 140$ just for their fuel charge and 1$ per bird for test. In the end I think it will pay for itself but it's just so frustrating when all these state testers are on the list to provide tests for people but when you call they say they only test their own birds. Anyhow, good luck everyone with your hatches!!

Lockdown ...

Humidity around 70 to 75?
I find a lot of differing opinions but I have never hatched before so I have no previous experience to base MY opinion on. I am in Mississippi.
Right now it is 71/99. Good enough guess as any other?
