Candeling and hatching diary.

Oh how sweet! Congrats! I can feel your relief!
I'm at day 20 with 4 pips. One has been pipped most of the day. No zipping yet. Come on chickies! I am ridiculously anxious. I'm annoying myself![/quote]

One more is pipped but sitting still. He's moving inside, but guess he is sleepy.

Baby is in the brooding box. She eats well, but is trying to get out, hehe. Worried about her falling in the water dish.

Egg 2 has externally pipped this morning, still not zipping. Cheep in up a storm, and rocking away.

How will I know if he needs help?

Sometimes it takes 24 hours from that first pip until a zip happens. Don't be too eager to help or you may end up with a weak chick whose yolk sac hasn't sucked internally yet.

I don't plan on it. I was just wondering. I didn't have to help the first one, and I thought for sure I killed her.

I was crushed when my first hatch didn't make it past like day 14. So, I just want to make sure all goes ok this time.

I am headed to bed, and will keep checking on my Flutter bird, and the eggs, on potty breaks. ;)

Thanks Darlin', for the advice though. 24 hours is a long time for a lil guy, but they know what they're doin. So, I'm gonna let em do it.

You can even go 48 hours. But keep this in mind, Now that you have one out, it will be like dominos, the rest should react and pop one at a time,.

Just an update on the first duck eggs I hatched, from my own adults. They're growing big! The three from my rouen hen are almost as big as she is now, gigantic ducks. One of them however has a really downturned beak. I've seen it before in books- I know people breed for that, but I think it looks silly and other than ornament, I don't know how it would help the duck muck around in the mud like they like to do etc.
