I'm new at this so I'm trying not to be discouraged yet --- when candeling my eggs all I see is the air sac and even that is very faint. My eggs are on day 9 - set them on april 1. 6 are American Blue Geese and 8 are Pomeranians. All the early eggs we ate were fertile. Last year both trios had a couple of goslings on their own. I'm hoping it's just that I don't know what I'm doing -- I really can't imagine that none of them would be developing

. I bought a light that is specifically for candeling from GQF. It may not be dark enough where I have the incubator. any ideas on technique would be really appreciated.

Can you even see the yolk??? If not, I'd say you need a brighter light. I was having trouble seeing through my goose eggs, so I got a much brighter flashlight. That made a huge difference.

Thanks so much for your reply ---

Just wanted you to know --- got a brighter light and I was able to see veins in 10 out of 14 eggs. The four that I can't see are all from the same goose. They were all set at the same time. Do I give them a few more days? today is day 10.

If you cant see veins by day four am sure to say that they wont hatch as you should see the veins by day 4/5 (if im wrong correct me)

On candling eggs make sure to go into a dark closet to do so. You will see through the eggs much better that way. Most of us Sebastopol breeders do not candle at all until the 7th day. Then if we still can not see 10 days at the latest. If nothing then there are either not fertile or the just did not develop. Toss them then. When you first set the eggs in the incubator you do not turn the eggs for 24 hours. Then after that we either turn on our egg turners or start hand turning 3-5 times a day depending on how much time you have during the day.
Hope this helps you some. Good luck with the hatching...
