Candling Day 9, twins?

There is a membrane hanging of the umbilical cord that I think is what is left of the yolk sac. She looks early to me, but is doing better than I expected. The others were all fine. I am afraid to rush things after seeing this chick. Going to wait until tomorrow and see if there. Are anymore peepers or pips.

So baby "PopTart" is doing much better now I am pretty sure she is a premature hatch and although today is day 21 but the yolk would suggest she is still on day 19 so I still have hopes for my other babies and I keep praying for the twins

As the day goes our littlest chick is growing stronger. She is now drinking on her own( I gave her drops of electrolyte water hourly last night) and moving around quite a bit in her small area of the brooder. So far I think she is going to pull through with a little TLC. No others hatching yet. Thinking this might be it, but maybe there will be another straggler.

Open up that one egg just to make sure it really were twins?

If it truly had twins, would be an amazing case even if they did not make it, especially if it's clear there was only one yolk.

Well we're not giving up yet some eggs wiggle from time to time so I'm hoping for the best

I am guilty of performing an eggtopsy on all eggs. I guess I like to know what went wrong. I am waiting until day 24, then I will float test them. My daughter swears she saw it move, but she really wants them to hatch. The only thing I can think of is that may have impacted my hatch is that the incubator did not circulate the air as well with more eggs and some had more heat than others resulting in different rates of development. My first hatch in the same incubator with eggs from the same chickens did much better... I am convinced the last chick who hatched was early, she was much smaller with an unabsorbed yolk sac. So time will tell. I will definitely share the outcome of the egg that looks like a single yolk twin.

although she may be tiny she is sure spunky

I would deffinately take a knife and very carefully make a pip in any air sacs of eggs you see moving at all. Late chicks may be shrink wrapped chicks and unable to get out. after that, if you see movement below the membrane but no blood, I'd go all the way in. I've had several chicks look like they weren't going to hatch but I went in and got them out fine. Chicks can need help for any reason, and I even had to help one from under a hen last week...and I know the temp and humidity HAD to be right under her!
Good luck with the rest of the chicks (Especially the twins, I want someone else to have some survivors) and congrats on all your hatched babies!
