I tried candling at the end of day 7, it wasn't really dark enough when I did it and I was only using a flash light. I couldn't see anything in my brown eggs, but in the white eggs I could see a dark, flat-looking area at one side of each egg, which stayed in the same position as I turned the eggs. Does that sound okay? I'm planning to candle again in a few days, and make sure it's darker when I do it. It's now day 9.

Wrong forum, this should be in Incubating & Hatching Eggs.

At day 7, you should see a lot of veins. Here is a great article (ongoing) of a chicken egg developing, day by day. Compare yours to it. Don't remove eggs unless they begin to stink/leak. If they are totally clear by lockdown, you can remove them. If you are doubting, leave it.

Thanks, sorry for putting this in the wrong place. I will try candling again in a few days, but I like the advice about only discard ing eggs if they are stinking or leaking. Thanks for the great link too, very reassuring.

Sure, it's not a huge deal. Just for future reference.

Good luck with your hatch LittleMoss!

I always go into my Bathroom that has no window..... Use a flashlight also....shine into the fat end of the egg...by this point you will see a heart beat and veining in the egg.......

Best of luck.....

Cheers!
